Dan Bernier grew up in Waterville, the youngest son of prominent lawyer and former mayor Albert Bernier.  He earned his B.A. degree from The George Washington University in Washington, DC and his J.D. degree from The New England School of Law in Boston, MA. 
 
While at NESL, Dan earned the American Jurisprudence Award for Estate Planning.  He was awarded Volunteer Prosecutor of the Year for 1998, 1999 and 2000 for his volunteer work with the Kennebec County District Attorney's Office.  The National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors- Maine (NAIFA-ME) chose Dan Bernier as the 2009 recipient of the prestigious 
J. Putnam Stevens Award for his contributions to Insurance Law in the State of Maine.  The Maine State Legislature joined NAIFA-ME in recognizing Dan's achievements in Insurance Regulation.  Dan Bernier was appointed a Dedimus Justice by the Governor of the State of Maine in 2014. 


One aspect of his job that Dan enjoys a great deal is teaching others about law.  As a past Adjunct Professor at Thomas College, Dan taught real estate and probate law for the Paralegal Program.  Dan Bernier has also conducted numerous seminars on different areas of the law including the following:

Dan Bernier

Dan Bernier is a member of the Maine State Bar Association and a member and past president of the Waterville Bar Association.  He is on the Maine State Board for the Certification of Geologists and Soil Scientists and also serves on the Waterville Housing Authority Board.   He served previously on the Maine State Commission on Governmental Ethics and Election Practices.  Dan was a member of the Board of Directors of the Mid Maine Chamber of Commerce and served as Director.  He is a past chair of the Finance Commission for the Parish of the Holy Spirit, a Roman Catholic group of churches.  Dan is also a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #13486 and is very active in Scouting, serving as Scout Master of Troop 436 in Waterville and past Cub Master of Pack 436, also of Waterville.
